Dopo poco più di un anno dall’esperienza Colonna Sonora di “Axiom”, gli Archive sfornano un nuovo album dai suoni sempre più industrial e trip hop. Holly Martin domina il contributo vocale, forte del successo del precedente “With us until…”, e sono proprio i pezzi in cui lei vocalizza che sembrano i più coinvolgenti (“Kid corner”, “End of our days” e soprattutto la romantica e sussurrata “Black and blue”). Il resto sono richiami ai Massive Attack ed ai Portishead, pezzi molto percussivi ( “Restriction”, “ Ruination”, “Crushed”), dinamici quanto scarni, che abbandonano le aperture elettroniche, cosmiche ed ipnotiche di “Lights”, “Pills” o “Controlling crowds”, per esempio. Ad eccezione della delicata “Third quarter storm” o l’interessante “Greater goodbye” non ci sono spunti originali o composizioni ispirate, un album insomma che non aggiunge nulla di nuovo a quanto finora proposto dalla band.
